Take Action

There are many ways to make a positive difference in this campaign.  The coalition is growing and the campaign is gaining momentum, but we could not do it without you. Join us in the fight to rein in predatory payday lending in Washington State . . .

  1. Share your story!  Talk to community groups and decision makers about your own experience with predatory lenders, or include your story in a booklet to be distributed to lawmakers.
  2. Raise the issue of predatory lending at community events in your area.
  3. Staff an information table at a local event or festival.
  4. Recruit friends to write letters urging lawmakers to take action to protect consumers against predatory lenders.
  5. Reach out to predatory loan consumers and connect them with our campaign.
  6. Make a presentation to your club, faith group, or other organization to get your fellow members informed and energized about predatory lending.  Then, recruit them to join the campaign!
  7. Help us write informational materials, reports, op-eds, and letters to the editor.

Contact your lawmakers: Poverty Action’s website makes it easy to send a quick note to your state legislators. Take 2 minutes to move your elected leaders to take action.

Write a letter to the editor: 150-200 words can make a big difference . . . write your local newspaper and let your community know why this issue is important.
